The Bangkok Art & Culture Center (NY-Guggenheim-inspired building) had an opening for a great show of contemporary artists responding to the recent protests in the country:
Here's Logan and Pailin, one of the artists...
a detail of her cool installation based on the propagandistic nature of the rhetoric from all sides. To me it also evoked prayer rugs...
Some of the other art on display... (btw the Thai flag is also red, white, and blue)
This phone was ringing and if you picked it up "hold music" blasted from speakers:
in conjunction with this piece which blared the Thai national anthem (you know I love it), by an artist originally from BK named Jeff Gompertz:
guns and mirrors...
the view from the center of MBK mall...
the entrance to another show...
this show was photos of the aftermath of the protests, but I only got this pic before they shut me down:
an aspiring photographer and muse...
more Thai food-inspired art... This cake had a male "Farang" (gringo) and Thai female on top, a very familiar, and I imagine contentious sight around here (the reverse is rare to see).
Sandy w/ Singha & performance cake:
Pailin offering me cake ("trust me")...
Logan w/ cake:
the curator, Bow Wasinondh, fulfilling the promise...
Logan's dog from his recent Design Festival held here (now apparently part of the collection):
